About Us

Baystock Farming Ltd is a Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu livestock grazing and finishing business operating across about 6,500 hectares of vineyard and orchard grazing, hill country, and grazing and cropping flats.

The system is built around seasonality, finishing lambs through winter when the market is strong, utilising the natural climate of the regions we operate in. It’s a practical, scale-based model focused on keeping land productive while maintaining high standards of land care across the blocks we operate.

Baystock Farming has built a strong reputation for looking after the land well while making paddocks work hard and deliver real value.

We partner with vineyard owners and managers to provide controlled grazing that reduces the need for mowing, helping lower labour and machinery costs. Our systems are designed to work around vine health and seasonal requirements, offering an efficient way to manage grass growth during the off-season while generating additional income from otherwise underutilised land.

During the growing season, we can also assist with targeted leaf plucking, removing lower leaf matter to improve airflow, light penetration, and fruit quality. This more selective, hands-on approach can deliver better results than standard machine-based methods, supporting a higher-quality crop.

In orchards, our grazing solutions provide an efficient, low-impact way to manage ground cover while reducing reliance on mechanical and chemical inputs. By using livestock to control grass and weeds, we help minimise the need for mowing and reduce spray requirements—lowering both costs and overall input use.

This approach supports a cleaner, tidier orchard floor, improving accessibility and creating a more streamlined operating environment. At the same time, it promotes more natural weed management, contributing to healthier soils and more sustainable orchard systems.

For cropping operations, we offer grazing options that make use of land between rotations or post-harvest. This helps clean up crop residues, improve soil utilisation, and provide a return during periods when land would otherwise sit idle. Our approach supports efficient land use while fitting around existing cropping programmes. 

We work with small to medium size land holders to support pasture rotation and optimise feed utilisation. Whether it’s short-term grazing or longer-term arrangements, we help maintain pasture quality, manage surplus feed, and tidy paddocks—keeping properties well-presented and productive. 

For properties undergoing development or capital expenditure programmes, Baystock Farming can manage grazing during transition periods. We help keep land controlled, maintained, and generating income while infrastructure or long-term plans are being implemented, reducing downtime and ongoing upkeep costs.
